Scaphognathus Illuminated

You may remember that I went a bit batty over Scaphognathus crassirostris this year (here, here, and here).

In the Vintage Dinosaur Art post about S. crassirostris, I featured several reconstructions that used the same pose. It's rare that it's repeated nowadays, but I was mighty tickled to see this shared on Twitter today:
pterodactyl

Yup, that's the pose. It's a light painting by artist Darren Pearson. Read more about his work and his series of dinosaur light photos at Petapixel.

  1. That is pretty awesome, although it's a pity about the bat wings. Saw a cast of the holotype in the Grant Museum the other day.

  2. Off topic (sorry), but I only just realized that the list of blogs on the left is a stealth blogroll! I've always wondered how they were arranged as they didn't appear to be in alphabetical order or anything particularly meaningful (as well as why my blog often gets hits from this one soon after posting new posts, in spite of not being featured in any recent posts here).

  3. Yup, that's right. Though I admit that I didn't realize a blogroll was arranged chronologically. Just thought it meant a big list of blogs. Also, added your DR review to my roundup of reviews.

  4. I usually use blogroll as just "big list of blogs" as well, I just didn't know of a better word to use. Maybe chronological blogroll would have been better!
