I haven't seen too many of their recent publications, but too many (not all, I hasten to add) digital reconstructions of dinosaurs are indeed sadly negligible, whoever the publisher.Nateehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15869685234493116483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107291904794625632.post-19308175276528451292011-11-30T16:08:28.886-05:002011-11-30T16:08:28.886-05:00@Marc Vincent
I'm surprised you didn't me...@Marc Vincent

I'm surprised you didn't mention Barosaurus having multiple hearts. This book was the 1st time I had heard about that weird-ass hypothesis.

@Niroot

"I've always admired DK for their conciseness and excellent illustrations."

I concur, although I've always had mixed feelings about their models: Some are better than others (especially those by Luis Rey), but the bad ones are just plain ugly (E.g. The oddly-shaped, gnarly-skinned T.rex). This is especially true nowadays, given the computer reconstructions in their new "Dinosaur (DK Eyewitness Books)" ( http://www.amazon.com/Dinosaur-Eyewitness-Books-David-Lambert/dp/0756658101/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1322685801&sr=1-1 ) among others. Fortunately, there's a NHM book which, while not as new as said DK book, is much better in both text & illustration (In fact, it may be the best general dino book I've ever read): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Natural-History-Museum-Book-Dinosaurs/dp/184442183X

P.S. When I said "general dino book", I was excluding encyclopedias & the like.Hadiazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10805346627826158173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107291904794625632.post-84270178878357287532011-11-29T10:37:47.111-05:002011-11-29T10:37:47.111-05:00@Heinrich: There is a Plateosaurus profile, but it...@Heinrich: There is a Plateosaurus profile, but it's mostly just mounted skeletons with only one life restoration (a small drawing). These images are so widespread, I think a lot of other paleo-pictures I am familiar with must have originated from old DK books like this too.

But the Dinosauroid -- I actually came across a bunch of people talking about how these are, in fact, the reptile folk they think are secretly governing over countries. Naturally, no amount of reasoning could convince them that troodontids were bird-like and, you know, went extinct (they had their own theories about how things went down in the Cretaceous), so now that I have a personal experience about how dangerous and annoying such a hypothesis can be, I hope Russel is feeling more than just a bit embarrassed.Wyxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11769433759525344912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107291904794625632.post-66377140962010304162011-11-29T01:32:30.221-05:002011-11-29T01:32:30.221-05:00Funny, I was always creeped out by the front-view ...Funny, I was always creeped out by the front-view image of Tyrannosaurus instead...Albertonykushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00345306530772709064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107291904794625632.post-12717590290541462852011-11-28T19:01:46.767-05:002011-11-28T19:01:46.767-05:00Does it have a Plateosaurus? if so, please post - ...Does it have a Plateosaurus? if so, please post - or even better, email me a huge scan and let me do the (bloody) dissection! :)Heinrich Mallisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14195098490352297671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107291904794625632.post-85831050593628745052011-11-28T17:52:33.705-05:002011-11-28T17:52:33.705-05:00This review brought me up short.
